FAQ
What is the difference between mixing and mastering?
Mixing is the process of combining individual tracks to create a final stereo mix, adjusting levels, and applying effects. Mastering is the final step where the overall sound is polished, and the tracks are prepared for distribution.
How long does it take to mix and master a song?
The timeline varies depending on the complexity and length of the song. Typically, the process can take a few days. (2-5 days)
When and how do I pay?
Payment is required at the time of booking. We will begin working on your song once payment has been cleared. Payment can be made via Paypal, debit card, or credit card.
Can I submit references?
Sure! We can certainly take your reference into consideration while mixing or mastering. We would appreciate if you’d let us know what you like exactly about that reference.
Can you mix an entire album?
Of course! Albums can absolutely be mixed and mastered, and the delivery time would depend on number of tracks, duration, and complexity.
What file formats do you accept for mixing and mastering?
We accept various file formats, including WAV, AIFF, and high-quality MP3. It’s essential to provide individual tracks for mixing in a lossless format. Please ensure that all audio files start from the same point (e.g. bar 1/beat 1) and are in WAV or AIFF format (44.1, 48, 88.2, or 96kHz). Also, please bounce or commit any MIDI instruments as audio files, with a bit depth of 24-bit or 32-bit floating point. For mastering, please make sure you leave any limting/normalisation off before exporting.
Do we send the stems dry or wet?
We prefer to start with the final version of a sound or recording, keeping any important effects or processing (wet). However, for vocals and other effects that can be easily replicated, please provide both the original “dry” version and the final “wet” version. This gives us the flexibility to build upon your ideas. Please label the files clearly and let us know which is which.
What files do I receive after mastering?
The mastered files you receive will be 24/44.1 Wav files. If you require other formats/sample rates, please let us know when you book and we will be able to accommodate this.
How much headroom should I leave before mastering?
Please leave as much headroom as possible (aim for -6db) & ensure that any limting/normalising has been removed.
Will you use analogue equipment on my tracks?
Depending on the tier you choose, most of our engineers have a range of analogue & digital equipment in a high-end hybrid setup to obtain the best quality of music.
How do I send my tracks for mixing and mastering?
You can securely email your files or use a file-sharing service. Detailed instructions will be provided upon confirmation of your order.
How many “audio tracks” can I send for mixing?
For online mixing,we stick to a 48 channel limit. If your project exceeds this limit, we can still accommodate you for an additional fee. To streamline your channel count and save on costs, consider consolidating multiple backing vocal tracks into a stereo mix.
Can you fix poorly recorded tracks during the mixing process?
We can address certain issues during mixing, but it’s essential to provide the best quality recordings possible. Significant problems may require additional production work, which can be discussed separately.
Can you fix the timing and tuning of vocals or other elements?
Yes, we can perform additional editing tasks beyond mixing, but it’s an extra task that will incur an additional fee. To ensure a smooth mixing process, we ask that you handle these types of edits before the mix. If you would like our engineers to handle them, we can accommodate you for an additional fee. Keep in mind that any editing may extend the turnaround time of your project…
What is included in your mixing and mastering services?
Our services include track balancing, equalization, compression, reverb, and other necessary processing during mixing. Mastering involves finalizing the mix, adjusting overall tonal balance, and preparing the tracks for distribution.
Do you offer revisions?
Yes, we offer up to 3 revisions per song. (Depends on the Tier you choose) Additional revisions may be subject to an extra fee.
What is a revision?
An updated version of the mix, known as a revision, incorporates a variety of minor modifications. These can include things like changes to the balance, increasing the wetness of vocals, adding a gradual fade-up of synth pads during the verse, and making the bass sound fuller.
Can I attend the mixing or mastering session?
While we don’t offer in-person attendance, we encourage collaboration through regular updates and feedback during the process to ensure your satisfaction..
What is your refund policy?
We strive for customer satisfaction. If you’re not happy with the results, we’ll work with you to address concerns. However, refunds are considered on a case-by-case basis.
